PokerView Moving to Merge Gaming
09/13/2011Late Tuesday night, PokerView players were greeted with an email message that the site would be moving to the Merge Gaming Network midday on Tuesday. In the message, PokerView stated that their site would be down from approximately 12:30 PM until 10:00 PM ET. PokerView, the home of webcam poker, is one of the most popular rooms currently on the Everleaf Network, the third largest room to accept new players from the U.S.
According to poker traffic tracking site, PokerScout, player activity on Everleaf has slowed over recent months from around 450 real money players on average to around 300 today. Merge Gaming, on the other hand, sees approximately 1200 real money players on average. While the network has 3x as many players as Everleaf during most times of the day -- and is no doubt a large reason for the site's move to Merge Gaming -- the network has also seen its traffic decrease over the last few months as a ban on new U.S. sign-ups has stayed in force.
At this time, it remains unclear what will happen to rakeback players but it does appear that any U.S. player registering to PokerView before the transition will be able to continue to play on the Merge Gaming version of the site. This is notable because there is currently no way for new U.S. players to sign-up on the Merge Gaming Network, despite repeated indications that a reentry into the U.S. market is imminent.
If PokerView players are grandfathered into rakeback after moving to Merge it is likely that players will not end up receiving 40% rakeback at PokerView. Even when Merge Gaming offered rakeback -- up until early June -- Merge Gaming capped rakeback at 35%. So if a grandfathered rakeback policy would be allowed, players would likely receive only 35%. If no grandfathered rakeback is allowed -- certainly a possibility -- players would receive progressive rewards based on VIP status. The highest rakers, those generating $2,500 or more, would receive 35% from Daily Cashback and another from 10% from VIP Point exchanges. Lower raker generators would receive much less; anywhere from 5%-30%.
