Party Poker Introduces Double Hold'em
09/17/2010Party Poker has unveiled a new take on Texas Hold'em with their brand new game, Double Hold'em, available in No Limit and Fixed Limit versions. In the game, players are dealt three hole cards. If a player chooses to see a flop, they will be asked to select a "point" card once the flop has been dealt. The point card will be used to make two hands. The best of the two hands will be used to determine who has the best hand at the table.
Let's use an example: a player is dealt Ks, 9s and 6c and the flop comes 9d 7h 4d. Because you already have a pair, it makes sense to use the 9s in both hands as your point card. So you select the 9s after the flop -- assuming you want to continue playing -- and now have K9 and 96 as your two hands. If, for example the turn and river end up being the 8h and the 5s, you will automatically use the 96 off-suite for the straight (56789).
Tables are currently available up to $1/$2 at No Limit Double Hold'em and $2/$4 at Limit Double Hold'em. Action at the Fixed Limit Double Hold'em games is a bit light at this point, but the No Limit Double Hold'em tables appear to have games running at most limits, especially at the short handed tables. We recommend giving these games a look, especially when considering many players will likely not be playing an optimal strategy.
